Australian in Paris – g’day Lior

Last week an Aussie friend called asking if I wanted to join her at a live music bar, Opa-Paris, to check out one of her favorite singers from ‘back home’ who was in Paris for the week. Loving discovering new artists I happily made my way to the venue and was pleasantly surprised with what I saw and heard. The artist sitting under the spotlight was in fact a guitar and attached to it was an Australian singer-song-writer called Lior.

Back in Australia, Lior is a big hit with a huge fan-base – and 6 months ago he decided to give the northern hemisphere a taste of his music. So far he has been playing in New York, London and Paris and for every gig that passes more Americans and Europeans flock to see him, with the obvious ex-pat-Australian who comes to hear that familiar sound from his 2 albums: Autumn Flow and Corner of an Endless Road.

His music which I like to describe as soft-rock-guitar-pop is also very much world-music too. Lior who was born in Israel weaves his middle-eastern influence into his sound creating an acoustic bliss of melodies – not to mention those nostalgic lyrics coming out of that seductive voice! For his 2 gigs in Paris, the audience got that little bit extra when he invited his good friend and Oud player Joseph Tawadros to perform a along side him and together they really got the Parisian crowd transfixed! The cherry on top would be for Lior to come out with a song in French!

I just had to ask if I could interview him for the Paris Popcorn site – he agreed immediately and we spent the following afternoon hanging out and jumping around the courtyard of the Louvre (as we all do!) – And this is what this laid-back singing star had to say….
