Earlier this month I was invited to a live music performance at the Espace Culturel Louis Vuitton on the Champs Elysees to experience a collaboration with cellist Gaspar Claus and Quentin from Collectif Sin who paid homage to the late American cellist Charlotte Moorman….. O M G, it blew my mind, to be honest, at first I found it totally bizar, curiosity got the better of me and a few minutes into the performance I was left mesmerized….
It was a cello and pure data performance facing a wall of cathode tube television sets….tv signals danced to the beat of the cello in a blackened room…
Sounds a little off tune?…watch the short-snippet I captured below….
Gaspar Claus is known for his exploration of cello skills beyond its conventional use. He uses the whole body of the instrument (wood, metal & horse hair) to create a universe of sounds…(just wait till you see him perform – fabulous!)
Collectif Sin is a research laboratory working on sound and esoteric alchemy vibration, through experimental processes, analog and / or in the use of pure data.
The decoding of autonomous machines can build stress sounds to visual characteristics or physical features and dedicated to the creative process.
Naturally after such a performance a bottle of Veuve Clicquot went down really well surrounded by Paris’s glam boho crowd ….
