Eltham Palace and Gardens

Seeing that I absolutely adore Art Decor and palaces of every size, shape and epoch, AND it is Halloween weekend, I wanted to find something that the whole family could enjoy and experience together - so I stumbled upon the adventure trail of Halloween Quest of the Wizard of Once at Eltham Palace and gardens (inspired by Cressida Cowell’s bestselling book). Nestled in the Royal Borough of Greenwich in the South East of London, this palace has Tudor Halls (one of the largest and best-preserved medieval great halls) and Art Deco dining rooms which are amongst the finest examples of Art Deco architecture in England!

Once a favoured medieval palace and then the childhood home of Henry VIII, Eltham Palace was transformed into a striking Art Deco mansion by eccentric millionaires Stephen and Virginia Courtauld. The interior of the house has been described as a "masterpiece of modern design". Their stylish home is filled with state of the art technology from the 1930s and one can discover the couple's extravagant lifestyle.

And needless to say, it was a successful day out with the kids as they chased for the Halloween quest through the palace's glorious gardens while hubby and I marvelled at the 1930's festive decor!

(The house is owned by the Crown Estate and managed by English Heritage.)
