The exhibition is cleverly divided into themes rather than timelines, introducing visitors to adventurers, billionaires, gamblers, counterfeiters, thieves and dreamers. Along the way, it asks surprisingly modern questions. Why are we fascinated by people who have enormous fortunes?

The exhibition is the largest retrospective of Gianni Versace ever presented in France, bringing together around 450 pieces. There are dazzling runway looks, original sketches, campaign photography, accessories, videos and rarely seen archival material that paint a picture of the man behind the Medusa.

At the centre of the exhibition is A Year in Normandie, Hockney's remarkable 90-metre-long artwork inspired by the landscape surrounding his home in rural France. Stretching through the gallery like a visual journey through time

You see echoes of her style in corseted silhouettes, exaggerated skirts, soft pastels, and unapologetic femininity — from designers like Dior to the punk-inflected rebellion of Vivienne Westwood. It’s fascinating to realise how one woman’s image still shapes how we think about luxury, excess, and feminine power centuries later.

To celebrate, the Grand Palais has invited Euphoria—the travelling immersive exhibition by the Balloon Museum—to take over the newly unveiled nave until 7 September 2025. And yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like: huge inflatable artworks, light-and-sound installations, sensory tunnels, a “bubble bath” of black balls with 360° visuals, and more air-themed joy than you knew you needed.
